An open meeting with Syrian journalists to discuss the transition in the media

May 21st, 2014

The Day After (TDA) held an open meeting with Syrian journalists based in Istanbul to discuss the transition in Syria. Representatives from Syrian newspapers, TV stations, and websites attended the meeting which was held at TDA’s office. The participants discussed how the media covers issues related to the Syrian transition, including subjects such as transitional justice, the rule of law, and security sector reform. The participants identified challenges faced by the media outlets inside Syria when dealing with these topics and proposed ways to overcome them. TDA believes it is important to increase awareness of the principles underlying rule of law and transitional justice in order to highlight ways that Syrians can promote stability and decrease chaos in the transition period. Media outlets play a significant role in spreading information and help articulate a shared vision for the future of Syria”
